#125 Thomas Jefferson & Monticello - A True Organic Gardener in Action

Charlottesville, VA

Thomas Jefferson has made his mark in history for many things. But to gardeners, he holds a special place of honor. As a seed saver, plant propagator, organic gardener, lover of compost and manure, Jefferson's pioneering, organic practices with plants and soil are still in use today. Thanks to his meticulous records and the historic preservation of the grounds, we can step back in time to see how one of the most famous green gardeners in history lived out his passion for gardening at Monticello. We also learn how we can apply many of his "tried and true" gardening methods to our own gardens today. Chef Nathan uses Thomas Jefferson's favorite vegetable, the pea, to create a fantastic pea soup with bacon, creme fraiche and mint.
