The Jason Project

Monster Storms
The 2008 VT Storm Chase - follow the storm chase team as they predict and track down supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes. You can follow this team of college and high school students as they travel through Tornado Alley in search of an F5. Departure set for May 11, 2008. Follow along on their journey by reading the journal entries and checking out the webcam footage. Keep an eye on the weather and see if you can predict where they will go next!
Follow along at www.icsrc.org/ICSRC/TILT/Weatherline/stormchase2008.htm

Tornado

2004 - The maturing tornado begins to bear down on Rt. 183 between Holdrege and Alma, Nebraska. Several chase teams and the DOW's were located on this road. The ONLY escape route was southbound, as radar indicated hail to 4.5" in diameter crossing the road north of this area. Our team raced southward as the tornado closed in to within 1/2 mile of the road.   2007 - taken by David Ramsaur, the chase team during a close encounter with a spectacular tornadic supercell in KS.

Operation: The Resilient PlanetComing for 2008-2009!

Operation: Resilient Planet will take students to Earth's critical ecosystems to investigate nature's strategies for regeneration, learn ecosystem management by taking on the roles of researchers and policymakers, understand pressures from human-induced changes and recognize their responsibility for defending biodiversity.

JASON's inquiry-based curricula are grounded in the principle that students learn best when challenged to apply their knowledge to exciting, real-world scenarios. Compelling scientists, taped on location with our student and teacher Argonauts, come to life for students through video, podcasts and Web casts, live chat sessions and interactive computer games.

Like NASA's Mission Center in Houston, the JASON Mission Center is the hub for online exploration. It contains all the student and teacher content, communications systems, digital experiences and other resources for the curriculum. The JASON Mission Center includes state-of-the-art resources for educators to manage, assess and track student performance.
