Round One. Classroom teachers may be nominated or may nominate themselves by submitting an electronic entry form and the elements listed below. All entry materials must be in PDF format and sent electronically to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Candidates must agree to a background check.
The following elements should be electronically submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. October 19, 2012:
Resume or curriculum vitae that lists the nominee’s
- education history
- employment history
- continuing professional development
- awards/honors
- regional, state, national, international presentations
- volunteer service to the community
Three letters of recommendation, forwarded from the reference.
(Suggested sources: principals, supervisors, parents, colleagues, current or former students.)
Nominees must provide a personal statement about their teaching
(limit is two (2) typewritten pages, 12 point font, 1 inch margins) that demonstrates how they fulfill the criteria of the McGlothlin Awards. Please address these important points:
How do you bring the world to your classroom?
Where would you choose to spend $10,000 of your award for international travel? How would this enhance learning for your students?

Round Two. Each semifinalist must electronically submit a standards-based lesson plan (limit is 4 pages) and send us a video of themselves teaching that lesson to their students. Semifinalists are asked to grant rights to publish their lessons and/or use their videos on websites, in print or on the air. DO NOT SEND A VIDEO AND LESSON until you are notified you are a semifinalist.
Round Three. As the final step in this process, the judges will observe the six finalists’ classrooms and conduct interviews with the finalists and their spokespersons.
